The Tyrrell Ford 008 was the first car of the traditional team of former woodcutter Ken Tyrrell not to be designed by Derek Gardner. Maurice Philippe, the designer of twice worldchampionship winning Lotus Ford 72 and it`s legal successor, the Parnelli Ford VPJ4, created a very conventional car for 1978, after the Tyrrell Ford P34 had failed definitely the year before caused by problems with the very small front tyres. After Ronnie Peterson had switched back to Team Lotus the Italian-Frenchman Didier Pironi as a novice joined Team Tyrrell at the side of Patrick Depailler staying at East Horseley since 1973. The Frenchman, very faithful to the team for half a decade, showed an excellent performance in the 008 at Monte Carlo to win the most important race of the year with the car being sponsored by FIRST NATIONAL CITY bank and elf oils and fuels. Threetimes Team Tyrrell world champion Jackie Stewart entered the cockpit of a Tyrrell Ford 008 for a very special test session held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Southern France. The photos of the Tyrrell Ford 008 shown here were taken at the 2006 Jim Clark Revival at Hockeheim.
